I am seriously considering entering the 2003 contest, however I need help on how one goes about finding a proxy to submit the weekly plays? Obviously, trust is a concern when relying on someone to go there everyweek and make sure the plays are in. I know about the entry fee, and needing to originally be there in person to sign up. So by me living outside the state of nevada, how do I find a trustworthy proxy? Are there special services for this? what do they charge? what is ususally their cut if you place and rec a payout? any help would be greatly appreciated..

thanks

I think you gotta show an ID with your picks so you won't even be signed up. Good luck finding someone for that, not only do you gotta compensate him/her for putting in your picks, you have to come up with a deal should you win money because if you win almost any prize your proxy will be facing a big fat W2-G. So basically you will be entering it with the expectation of having to pay out probably close to half the money to your proxy. Sure you want to do that?

After you sign up in person, you don't ever have to go back to Vegas. The contest entry is in your name and the proxy turns in all your picks and if you win the check is paid to you.
Here's what some regular entrants pay to this very honest and dependable proxy: $200 upfront fee for handling the weekly picks and if they win any money, the proxy gets 10% off the top. I am sure you will be very comfortable with who it is after you talk to him. About taxes: since it is income you will be needing to declare any winnings on your tax return but I know you pay your taxes anyway. If you are serious, I will arrange for you to get in touch with this excellent proxy.

Since to begin with the contest DOES NOT return 100% of the prize money, plus your paying an extra $200 to the proxy, plus 10% of your winnings if you win.........I think you would be better off just to bet the games. I didnt even mention the taxes.

Wild Bill and Strut are correct! Mathematically you are getting the worst of it.

The contest prize structure was changed last year to pay 100%. They had been deducting 10% for a few years, but not last year.
Mathmatically, you are not really getting the worst of it unless paying the taxes is considered getting the worst of it. What many are forgetting is that while there are a lot of good handicappers in the contest there are also many more very very bad handicappers who more than balance it out. It is actually an overlay before the tax part. But I am sure you guys are all paying your taxes anyway because you are honest citizens. But it is considered the "world championship" and many are playing as much for the title as the money.

Heywood- THANKS for the info....makes for a great play if your in vegas for the whole season....no doubt about it being an overlay if they are paying 100%.
